Oliver!
You can consider itself at home with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. Audiences will recognize the long string of familiar song titles including “Food, Glorious Food,” “Consider Yourself,” “Oom Pah Pah,” “I’d Do Anything,” and “Who Will Buy?”
Performances: April 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Gaslight (Angel Street)
This suspenseful drama in the Alfred Hitchcock genre, tells the story of the Manninghams, who live on Angel Street in 19th century London. As the curtain rises, all appears to be the essence of Victorian tranquility. It is soon apparent, however, that Mr. Manningham, a suavely handsome man, is slowly driving his gentle, devoted wife, Bella, to the brink of insanity with an insinuating kindness that masks more sinister motives. It is from this story that the term “gaslighting” entered our vocabulary.
Performances: October 24, 25, 26, 27
